The Buffalo Creek Kids Triathlon is a USAT sanctioned event. All participants must be a current annual member of USAT or purchase a one-day pass for $10 at packet pick up. Participants will also have the option of purchasing an annual USAT Youth Membership for $15 at packet pickup.  Registration and packet pick up is from Noon to 6:00 pm on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Rockwall Cycling. 

All established USAT rules will be in effect and will be strictly enforced. You must show your child’s USAT member card and your photo ID at packet pick up - no exceptions. Parents or legal guardians may pick up children’s packet. Child does not have to be with parent or legal guardian. If your child is an annual USAT member and you do not bring the member card to packet pick up, you must buy a one-day pass for $10. No exceptions.

New USAT Youth Racing Rules for 2012 and beyond

In addition to the 2011 USAT Youth Racing Rules, please review the following rules thoroughly and make sure your child is prepared for race day - all USA Triathlon rules WILL be enforced:

• No flotation devices may be used during the swim.
• No training wheels are allowed on the bicycle.
• Only standard drop, straight, or curved handlebars are allowed.  No aero
  or time trial bars may be attached to the bike or used during
  competition.
• No disk wheels or wheel covers are allowed.
• No time trial, “chrono,” or “aero” helmets with a tail may be used.

Special Notes:  Each parent must use his/her best judgment about the individual ability and readiness of his/her child to participate in this event.   We hope to make this an annual event, so if your child is not ready this year, play it safe and wait until next year's race to let them enter.  Kids must be at least 6 years old on the date of the event, able to ride safely without training wheels, and able to ride without constant adult supervision.  For the safety of all and to minimize congestion on the course, and to comply with USA Triathlon rules, PARENTS AND SPECTATORS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE COURSE DURING THE EVENT.  We will have course monitors and volunteers stationed and patrolling around the course to keep the kids going in the right direction and be near in case a need arises.  

ALSO - Please keep in mind this event is primarily intended to be a friendly entry into the sport for kids, rather than an "all out" competition.   There are plenty of "competition" level kids events in the metroplex for experienced youth racers who seek it.  This is not intended to be one of them.  We want kids to have fun and safely complete this event.  Accordingly, we are not chip timing the kids, nor are we closing the course.
